Overview:

Welcome to Microsoft® Windows Server® 2016: Networking (Exam 70-741). This course covers all the topics listed in the exam objectives for 70-741. It also contains practical information for the working network and system administrator. In addition to this book, the successful student will become comfortable with all procedures and activities listed in this book, the How Tos and Spotlights on the CHOICE website, and refer to the websites listed in the student notes throughout the content.

Target Student:

This course is designed for network and system administrators who administer and maintain Windows Server systems that provide various services in an enterprise environment. Individuals should attend if they are network and system administrators or prospective network and system administrators who are responsible for administering and maintaining Windows Server networks as their primary job responsibility. In addition, individuals who have some knowledge of, and experience working with, Windows Server and who want to further develop their skills for Windows Server 2016 implementation will also benefit from this course.

This course is also designed for students who are seeking the MCSA: Windows Server 2016 certification and who want to prepare for Exam 70-741: Networking with Windows Server 2016.

Prerequisites:

To ensure your success in this course, you should understand the fundamentals of networking. You should also have experience with completing administration and security tasks in an enterprise environment. In addition, you should be comfortable with supporting, configuring, and using a Windows® client such as Windows 7, Windows 8, or Windows 10.

Course-specific Technical Requirements

Hardware:

For this course, you will need one computer for each student and one for the instructor. Each computer will need the following minimum hardware configurations:

• A processor capable of running Hyper-V® for hosting 64-bit VMs with support for SLAT processors—any Intel® processor i3, i5, or i7 above 4th generation that supports SLAT
• 16 gigabytes (GB) RAM or more (32 GB recommended)
• 500 GB or above on hard disk
• DVD-ROM drive (if installing any software from a DVD-ROM)
• Keyboard and mouse (or other pointing device)
• Graphics hardware acceleration requires DirectX 10 graphics card (1,280 × 800 resolution monitor recommended)
• A network adapter compatible with Windows Server 2016
• Internet access (contact your local network administrator)
• Printer (optional) or an installed printer driver
• Projection system to display the instructor's computer screen

Software:

• Microsoft® Windows Server® 2016 Standard or Datacenter edition (Desktop Experience)
• If necessary, software for viewing the course slides. (Instructor machine only.)
